So today we broke out the stencils and cutting tools, sat down at our NEVER used (heh) dining room table and carved each out our pumpkins. I was inspired by a couple of gaming pumpkins I saw over on Kotaku and decided to make one as well.

My most favorite Legend of Zelda game ever made: Wind Waker! All is quiet until I hear in a loud tone "Oh thats so disgusting" "That's not right". If you can guess what scene I'm referring to then good for you; otherwise I'll tell you what it is. The scene where Eve is reading the note left by the woman who was tortured for being gay. The torturing wasn't what set her off. The violence didn't phase her. Yet the moment she found out she was gay...oh that was just wrong. She probably deserved to die in her eyes.

I honestly feel sorry for my girlfriend. She's mentioned to me that her cousin just goes on and on about God and religion ever since she arrived in town. I know what its like to "lose" a friend to a cult. It changes them completely to the point where you can't even relate to your friend or relative any longer.

So sad.

I wish I could upload directly from my PSP

Vids yeah I know I couldn't do that, but at least the images I wish I could. I enjoyed the heck out of it, but boy did I feel like such an out of shape fatass compared to all those gung-ho runners who were present there as well.

The distance was approximately 3.1 miles and I completed it in 40 minutes. The best time was about 19 minutes by some teenage kid.

I was second to last in my age group of men. I wasn't expecting to do the best considering I started running again just a month earlier, being slightly overweight for my size, a former decade regular smoker turned casual smoker. I also walked the first mile with my girlfriend because she wasn't planning on jogging at all. She hates it. So I told her I wouldn't leave here behind for at least the first mile.

I am preparing myself for the next run though. I'm going to do better. I already added approximately 2 miles to my regular route bringing it up to almost five miles. I ordered a camera for my PSP and when I get it in the mail I'll test it out by snapping photos of my route. Its kinda interesting. I pass by my cities zoo, through one of our cities park and past a couple of really nice homes.

Hmm..I wasn't planning on running before work today but after typing this I kinda do now.

Well after only a year and a half of casual use, my Xbox 360 finally bit the dust. Probably because I wasn't really playing it at the moment and I don't have to pay for the repairs. I went directly to their forums to read what people are saying about it and came across this post:

My brain about exploded when I read from the local official "Registered Dietitian" that losing 4.5 pounds in one week is very exciting to hear. That person would have had to do some SERIOUS exercising or literally not eaten a thing all week. Weightloss of that much is very unhealthly and this "Betty Kovacs, MS, RD" had the balls to say "Good Job!". So of course I had to respond to this person and claim that such a rapid weight loss was in fact not good and very bad, but wouldn't you know it: the forums are moderated and my post will either be allowed or denied from being seen by the public eye. So I'm really curious to see whether Betty will take me up on my debate on this issue.

To be continued...

The Darkness

I can't say I've been watching this one from the very beginning. Awhile back I became curious about how difficult it would be for to make this trek either by foot or by bicycle. Well Saturday morning I woke up and within an hour decided that today was going to be the day.

It took me four hours on foot.

I don't know whether to say it was one of the dumbest things I did or something I'm glad I experienced. Well I suppose I can't say it was the dumb. I've never traveled such a long distance before so I really didn't know what was going to happen. The only negative experiences I had was not bringing a small towel that I could use to wipe the dripping sweet from my face and not packing enough water (thank god for gas stations). Also the muscles in my right foot were already slightly sore from me exercising all week, so it really hurt on Sunday. It's feeling better this morning, but yesterday...ouchie. I had a feeling that would happen. I just didn't think it would hurt that bad considering I was just walking.

Now I did get to see my city from a completely different angle. I mean, how many people can honestly say that they've witnessed their town/cities surroundings by walking around in it. Obviously there are areas of any city you wouldn't, and shouldn't, be in if you value your possessions or your life. Yet I think I can say I've experienced a good bit my city by foot and this half marathon distance is yet another I can add to it.

I don't know if I would do it again though. I would definately wait until I knew my body was prepared for such a strenuous act. I would also wait until the temperature dipped down a bit. Walking in 90+ degree weather: Not a great idea.

I should have known better than to upgrade my Apple software...

I've always had problems upgrading my apple software. First the upgrade to my ipod video caused my movies to stall and downright quit working properly. I had to reverse it to its original manufacturing firmware to get things back to normal (and haven't upgraded since). My next problem occured when I had first upgraded my itunes software. It became quite the resource hog afterwards causing me to quit using it completely for some time until the next version/update was released.

I should have learned my lesson after that and opted to not update my itunes ever again if I wasn't having any problems to begin with or forced to. I should have turned off that upgrade available window that pops up every time I loaded up itunes. Yet, without thinking about how much of a crapshoot they are, I clicked on that update button and upped my itunes from 7 to 7.2 yesterday.

Once again I run into another problem. For some reason I couldn't run any other programs while I was playing itunes; otherwise it started stalling repeatedly. At first I didn't recall my bad experience with Apples crappy updates and thought something was wrong with my firefox. It took a minute of me staring at my screen and asking myself what I changed recently that might be causing this problem before it finally clicked.

I wanted to punch myself in the nuts for realizing what I did. I should have known better.

Thank god I found a site that offered previous version of itunes for us, apparently, sad XP users who like ipods.

So um..yeah. Don't update your itunes to 7.2 if you don't need to.

Harry Potter and the Bad Hair Stylist

I have Xbox.com has my starting page in Firefox, and on the main page they have a scrolling graphic newsfeed type thing. Well I just couldn't ignore this one image that flashed on their site when I loaded up firefox the other day. It was a feed pertaining to EAs new game based on the new Harry Potter movie coming out soon. The news of the game didn't catch my attention though; it was the fact that whoever styled Daniel Radcliffes hair must really believe that the Downs Syndrome look is about to be in style.

Seriously. What were they thinking when they created this advertisement.

To show a completely opposite style that I felt was more visually appealing and for the lack of a better term "cool" I present what they for the Harry Potter character in "The Prisoner of Azkaban".

That is much better. TWO FREE HD DVD movies with the purchase of the 360 player addon! AND King Kong is included (although I'm not a huge King Kong fan). Three free movies in total; not to mention its the least expensive player on the market currently. That was a savings of at least sixty US dollars for me if I acted on the offer now.

I hope this was a good decision. I dwelled on it all week since I first saw it advertised in the Sunday paper (I bought it Friday). Just like every other technogeek drooling over this new format, I'm worried whether or not I chose the right side. Will HD-DVD phase out or will Blu-ray? I finally arrived to this conclusion after much thought: I think they're both here to stay.

I come to this conclusion because I keep reading of more and more companies preparing to release players that support both formats. Which leads me to believe that its going to be a long battle and there may not be a winner. ever. Just like flash drives there could be more than one format out there.

I'm happy. I have an HUGE HDTV and its a tragedy to watch DVD quality movies on it when I've seen just how much better it could perform. That sentence was just one of the strangest things I think I ever read myself typing out. I remember the day with DVD first came around and I didn't think it could possibly get any better than that; and here we are today. My god. Crazy.

Can't do anything else while these CDs rip...

So I've been putting off ripping my music collection for too long now. I wasn't planning on doing it today, but after putting an album on my itunes I just walked over and grabbed my two boxes full of cds and started ripping away.

That and I'm tired of seeing these two boxes sitting in the corner of my bedroom. Recently I had to evacuate the largest closet in my apartment and give it to my girlfriend because her clothes and shoes started to overflow the small closet she took over a few years ago after she moved in. I was using the largest closet to store my boxed up shit and whatnot. Well during this switch I pulled out my cds and set them aside in the bedroom to rip later.

Hmm..this Fight Club Soundtrack a friend ripped for me taking too long to put on itunes. Hold on a sec. Gonna switch CDs and do this one last; or skip it completely. I don't think I would really listen to this one anymore.

Ok. Anyways.

I've already put about half my albums on itunes. I just never got around to the other half until now. Having them boxed away out of sight was comforting enough for me to forget about them. Having them out bothers me mentally. I think I have some form of OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder). I obsess over lots of things in my life and one of them happens to be organization (number 1 on the list of my obsessions). In fact, my father is the same way: Organization! Everything has to be organized and efficient! Nothing random!

So when MP3 format came along I found a way to organize my music as well as way to physically store (or get rid of if I'm so inclined) one of my possessions. It definately put my mind as ease. I couldn't stand owning so many CDs throughout my life. I wanted to do something with them that would ease my obsessive mind and usually storing them away (efficiently!) usually did the trick.

As well as organization, owning lots of things bothers me. I don't like owning lots of physical objects that I have to always touch, move around, organize, store and worry about.

When I saw a wee lad I learned how comforting it was to just throw away something I didn't use or need any longer. Some people compulsively own stuff and collect stuff. I can't do that. I kinda do for some small things, but overall I try to decrease the amount of things I surround myself with. So being able to take these boxes of CDs and take them to my families attic for permanent storage and out of my apartment is going to feel so good. I could throw them all away without blinking twice, but something might happen one day to all this ripped music and I may need to rerip them again. Thats literally the only thing holding me back.

I no longer buy CD music if you couldn't guess.

My how time flys by...

Betcha thought I abandoned my blog. Well I guess I kinda did. Every once in awhile I'd foolishly hit the bookmark to see if anyone out there was concerned for my well being. Don't worry. It never hurt my feelings to see those zero comments still there. But hey for those of you who do come here occassionally, thanks.

I should blog more.

Been hitting the backlog of games I never finished this month. I've tightened the spending on frivolous things and gaming unfortunately is included in that category. I've already finished two games I probably would have never bothered to if I had not decided to be stingy with the moola. Dragon Quest 8 and Half Life 2. I'll talk more, maybe, about DQ8 another time and just briefly talk about HL2.

Half Life 2 is a great game. I always loved it. But because I like to buy so many games, it unfortunately happened to always have been pushed aside in favor of that new flavor game. Well after three days of solid playing in the mornings before I head off to work I finally finished it. Like I said already, great game. I don't know what to make of that ending though. Having never played the first one, I'm not really caught up on my HL folklore so I have no clue whats up with this "Gman" or whatever his name is. I should look it up on wikipedia some time. Hmm...anyways I can finally install Episode 1 that I bought the day is was released. Should be fun. I'm curious to see how that ending played out.

I really wanted the magazine.

So I was in Barnes and Nobles last night looking at the magazines when I ran across a brank new MMO mag. It looked interesting so I decided to buy it. As I was walking up to the cash register I was suddenly flooded with the thoughts of embarrassment. Here I was a thirty one year old guy buying a video game magazine in a bookstore. I curled it up to obscure anyones view of seeing what exactly I was purchasing as I stood in line. I imagined the women standind in front of me in line turning and seeing me holding this magazine and snickering while giving each other glances of "Geek alert!". Now I remember why I was having my subscriptions mailed to me instead.

This isn't the first time I felt embarrassed for my hobby(ies). The other day at work I was talking to a co-worker and he got to asking about what I like to do in my free time. I was so hesitent to mention my gaming addiction. I ended up downplaying it more than I should have. I gave the usual "Oh I really don't have all that much time, but I'll sit down for a few minutes here and there." Oh how ashamed I was.

There he goes. I thought I was going crazy with this whole Google thing and me not being able to log in correctly. Come to find out there switching to new features I wasn't aware of. If they emailed me about it I must have deleted it before seeing it. I do get about a hundred spam mails a day on MSN email account. Price I have to pay for having it for...damn...like nearly ten years now. As a matter of fact it was my very first email address I ever made. Now how many people can say that.

After much cursing and yelling I finally finished King Kong. It's in the Gamefly package ready to ship back. After the credits rolled and I hit that quit button I said to myself: "Damn it certainly took a good amount of people to create a steaming pile of shit". God I hate that game. Burning bushes! Finding sticks! Run into every wall until you figure out which way to go in the tunnels! Deal with terrible AI and a vomit inducing gaming perspective! Weee! I love me some of that!...yeah...if I was retarded.

I need to pop Dead Rising back in the box to cleanse this filth. And speaking of DR, I read tonight that the game already sold 500k copies and it hasn't even been released overseas yet. Now that is a sign of a really good game. And I smell the scent of sequel in the air!

I kinda want to pick up a new game. I got a coupon and another 10% off coupon for the labor day weekend and I've just been dying to use them. I'm eyeing Saints Row right now. The reviews have been positive for this GTA ripoff so far. I don't know. Maybe. I've been spending too much money lately though. Enough to make me feel guilty. I'm OK financially. I've just been...getting older I guess. Thoughts of saving and putting away "for emergencies" have been entering my mind more and more this past year. I guess its some biological thing that occurs when you hit 31. Yeah. I got my 31'st birthday coming up on the fifth. Labor Day! (Well almost. Not this year. 2011 will be the next time my birthday falls on it) Easy way to remember my birthday folks. It falls on or around this glorious holiday. In fact, Labor Day was originally celebrated on the fifth until they decided to just celebrate it on the first Monday of September instead. Of course you could also remember my birthday with the date that the towers fell as well. But I'd rather you didn't. So stick with Labor Day. It's closer. Did you also know that Jesse James, Freddie Mercury (Queen), Michael Keaton (BATMAN) share the same birthday as me, and that Sam Houston was elected the first president of the Republic of Texas on it as well? Interesting bit of info for you.

I love having my birthday on September. October would have been better, but I like a September birthday nontheless. I don't know why to be honest. I believe its because Summer is nearly over and my most favorite season is about to begin. Fall. Glorious Fall.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://evolution-baby.blogspot.com/2006/09/oh-bloggers-been-updating-no-wonder.html' title='OH! I had to do a bit of resetting passwords and resubmitting verification of email and whatnot. I know I hadn't blogged in awhile, but sheesh. Give me some time off.

So I tried playing King Kong for my Xbox360 last night. I got it from Gamefly about a week ago but just haven't felt like playing it. I've been spending all my gaming time, STILL, with Dead Rising. That game in my opinion has to be the best thing I've played in awhile. Sure its got its flaws, but what it does get right completely overshadows that. And I mean COMPLETELY. I've played through the game twice already and I'm halfway into my third. I rarely replay a game after I beat it.

So anyways, King Kong. I hate it. I flat out loathe this game. In fact this is the first game that actually makes me physically ill after playing it for a period of time. Something about the first person perspective of it that gives me motion sickness. Its like its a permanent zoomed in first person perspective. Now keep in mind I've never had a problem with first person games. DOOM...Half-Life...Battlefield...Thief...you name it. I love them and can play them for hours and not a single churning of the stomach. But not this one. I always wondered if I'd ever encounter a game that would do this to me and now the day has come.

Not only does this game make me ill, the scarce color palette used confuses me while I'm trying to get around and I end up running in circles in some areas. Not to mention the AI is annoying as hell and your fellow group members usually end up running off to the next area without letting you know which way they went. And besides swatting the occasional bug here and there, they think that burning shrubbery and finding sticks to open doors is FUN. I laughed out loud when one of the NPCs said he couldn't move over to me because a shrub was in his way.

Now I still haven't gotten to play as King Kong yet. Maybe thats where the majority of the focus of the game went. But if its anything like the game I've played so far...god help me as I force myself to complete the game and get all the achievements out of it that I can.

Oh and I only saw the movie, for free, months after it came out on DVD. I didn't like it. In fact, I thought it was kinda boring.

I'm still blogging...for those two of you who still check.

Yeah, its been a few weeks. I know. I haven't had that much to talk about to be honest; or maybe I've just been too lazy.

Good news. I've finally gotten my sleeping habits back in control. I've now been getting to bed at a decent time and waking up earlier in the mornings. It all started when I began working on my car. Physical labor over a five hour period every day for a week set me straight. At the end of each day I was getting home tired, sore, and ready for rest. An unexpected, yet pleasant surprise.

Unfortunately since I can't work on my car every day now that vacations over, I've started running again to compensate for not doing anything active during the week. I feel good. Not only does it allow me to get some of caffeine out of body that I've consumed throughout the day to help me sleep better at night, but I'm trying to lose some weight as well. It's something I was thinking about while I was working on my car. Wouldn't it be great if not only was I restoring the body and engine of my car, but also to my own body as well? I know...kinda corny...but its the things and decisions that go through my mind.

Now I was active for a few months this year when I was going to a gym for the first time to try and lose some weight. To be honest though, I was really never happy. Something about exercising in an air conditioned building alongside strangers just really didn't make me feel comfortable. Not to mention I felt that Gym Memberships are TOO expensive for my tastes.

I've always been an outside exerciser. I learned this after experiencing a gym atmosphere. It's something I have to do on my own. I can't share it with anyone.

Wanna see what I've done to my car now? Well since I've stripped the outside of the body completely, I've moved on to the firewall. I did this over a Sunday afternoon. I had to wrap the car and protect it from getting any chemicals or water on it. The bare metal can start to rust pretty easily. By the way, thats not rust in the final stripped down image of the firewall. It's in fact red primer paint. It LOOKS like its rust in this picture, but I just wanted to clarify that.

On the gaming front, I've been playing ALOT of GUN on the 360 trying to get all the achievements. I've got them all now except for one. Beating the game on Insane Difficulty level. Which I'm not going to try. I already played through the game 3 times now to get the achievements for completing the game on the Easy, Normal, and Difficult settings. I might start up a game just to see HOW difficult this "Insane" setting actually is, but it doesn't sound fun. The standard Difficult setting was difficult enough to make me want to throw the controller into the television. I'm getting old. My patience for difficult games just isn't what it used to be.

I also don't think I'm gonna want to play through GUN again because a VERY fun game comes out tommorrow: DEAD RISING. Zombies in a mall mother fucker! I have the demo downloaded of LIVE and played through it SO MANY times now I lost count. Now that is one fun as shit game. I can't recomment it enough and is definately a reason to purchase a 360. I have a 10% off coupon for Best Buy but its only valid starting this weekend and I don't know if I can wait that long to play it!

Summer Project continues...

Been spending more time working on the car. Sanding can really wear you out by the end of the day. I don't see how my brother does this on a regular basis. Or maybe I'm just THAT out of shape. Either way, at least it caused me to get back into regular sleeping habits because once it hits nighttime I'm ready to rest.

I'm nearly done with the majority of the body. I need to go to the store and pick up some small sanding disks so that I can get the cracks and grooves that I couldn't reach. After that I can spray down some primer and start smoothing out the body again.

Wow that only took two weeks...

At least they got it back. So I had to email support and find out whats up. I guess it got lost in the mail or something because they claim to not have received it. They went ahead and cleared my que so the next game on my list will be shipped to me, but now I got this shit marked on my account...

Dear Benjamen,

Thank you for contacting GameFly. I never had the opportunity to do that because for a good while it was my primary vehicle that I counted on to get me around. After I got my truck I parked it in the shop and there it sat for a good while. So one afternoon I stripped off a good portion of the body and pulled out the engine. Well...unfortunately my enthusiasm waned right after I took it apart and it sat in my father's shop for over two years with a tarp draped over it. I had been thinking about it these few years and felt bad that I had abondoned it so soon after I had started. It didn't help my guilt any by being reminded about it constantly by my father and my brother asking when I was going to finish what I started. They're both big car restoration guys so seeing something like that I'm sure is confusing to them.

I took off this week and decided to finally finish it up this summer. At least get a good majority of it together.

This is a progression of two days of work so far. I'm addicted to Achievement Points!

You can try it out and download the demo (its also for download on Xbox LIVE). I did. Not bad. Not bad since I received my email notice on Saturday. At least to me its not bad. Some kiddies out there might complain but not your good ol' buddy VF. I've become a patient guy. Yup.

First up on the list was X-Men: The Official Game (The Official Game? What nimrod thought of this title?). It's definately no X-Men Legends. I honestly don't see why you would want this one in your collection unless your a diehard fanboy and need to own anything with its name on it. It's a fairly generic fighting game with very little replay value (unless your going back through it finding all the "collection pieces" that unlock some addition stuff like new costumes). Not to mention some of the worst comic book inspired cut scenes I've seen in a long time. I wish I could get some stills of just how bad these things are. I can't even find any online. The closest I can get to showing you how they look are THESE! (NSFW) This "artwork" is actually the first thing that I thought about when I saw my first cut scene.

I can only play as Wolverine (a given), Nightcrawler, and Iceman. Surprisenly the most interesting character to play on that list is Nightcrawler. Sure sometimes it can get a little confusing if you play it like me and are teleporting like crazy all over the screen while in the middle of a chaotic battle, but damn is it fun. Unfortunately thats about the most interesting thing going for it. Back in younger, fanboy days I probably would have loved this game. Unfortunately I'm old and picky now.

I'm about halfway through the game already and plan on finishing it today. At this point I'm just looking forward to getting all the Achievement Points for my gamercard.

*added*

Well I finished the game 100%. First 360 game where I was able to get all 1000 allocated Achievement Points. Go me! Next on the rental list...GUN!

Funny Warcraft strip...

I feel guilty sometimes...

I had a dream last week and for some reason an ex-girlfriend popped up in it. I don't recall exactly what the dream was about, but I still remember her.

I hate when I remember the ex's. Old feelings, memories, and emotions flood out from the deep recesses of my mind where I put them away hoping to never remember again. The mistakes...the heartaches...the "should have married" hers...they all come back and sucker punch me in the gut when I least expect them to. Damn these harlots of the world. Why do they have to complicate the life of a simple man such as myself. I'm just shuffeling along in this wacked out planet trying to figure out just what the hell happened on a biological level to allow me to realize that I exist and I die. I don't need MORE emotional spider webs to weave through. And yet I return to these women like a drug addict. I've been pretty tired lately and posting takes mental energy which I wasn't willing to part with. But since I stole one of my girlfriends pillows last night and slept better than I had this past week, I'm in a good mood. I got a few things I could talk about but I'll spread it out over the next few days.

Today I want to talk about Poison Ivy/Oak/Sumac. During my early teens, like clockwork, I would break out around winter time from head to toe in poison ivy. I would always catch it from the smoke of the plants being burned. Well I had personally determined thats where I was catching it considering I never went running out in the woods naked or anything. I was seriously sensitive to urushiol oil for some reason; moreso than your average person. I've had adults ask if I had been a victim of a fire accident on more than one occasion.

Earlier last week I discovered a few rash spots on my body and I knew exactly what it was. It was my old nemisis from my childhood returning to taunt me once again. Where I came in contact with this foul oil I'll never know. Nevertheless, I've been applying large amounts of calamine lotion to the exposed parts of my skin in my futile attempts to fight it off.

I've never bothered to read up on what exactly causes these rashes from these plants so I did a bit of research online recently. Some interesting things I discovered. Where I got this info: here and here

What are the symptoms of Poisoning?

The first symptom of poisoning is a severe itching of the skin. Later, a red inflammation and a blistering of the skin occurs. In severe cases, oozing sores develop. The rash spreads by the poisonous sap (urushiol), not as the result of contamination from sores. The blood vessels develop gaps that leak fluid through the skin, causing blisters and oozing. When you cool the skin, the vessels constrict and don't leak as much according to Robert Rietschel, M.D. Chairman of Dermatolgy at New Orleans' Ochsner Clinic.

How does poisoning occur?

The culprit behind the rash is a chemical in the sap of poison ivy plants called urushiol (oo-roo-shee-ohl). Its name comes from the Japanese word "urushi," meaning lacquer. Urushiol is the same substance that triggers an allergic reaction when people touch poison oak and poison sumac plants. Poison ivy (Toxicodendron radican), Eastern poison oak (Toxicodendron quercifolium), Western poison oak (Toxicodendron diversilobum), and poison sumac (Toxicodendron vernix) are all members of the same family -- Anacardiaceae. The sap is released when the plant is bruised, making it easier to contract Rhus-dermatitis. The sap may be deposited on the skin by direct contact with the plant or by contact with contaminated objects, such as shoes, clothing, tools and animals.

Can I spread it by scratching?

Approximately 24 to 36 hrs after a sensitized person is exposed to the urushiol, a blistery, itching rash develops. Usually within 15 minutes of contact, the urushiol binds to skin proteins. After the antigen is fixed it cannot be washed off or transferred to other areas. Scratching or oozing blister fluid cannot spread the antigen to other areas of the body or to other persons. New lesions that appear a few days after the primary lesions represent less sensitive areas or areas where less antigen was deposited, not spreading of the antigen.

I actually did not know this. I had always been under the impression that I could spread the infection by scratching it and touching another part of my body. I'm definately not going to share this bit of info with the girlfriend. Taunting her with exposure is just too much fun.

Poison Ivy and the Immune System.

The body's immune system is normally in the business of protecting us from bacteria, viruses, and other foreign invaders that can make us sick. But when urushiol from the poison ivy plant touches the skin, it instigates an immune response, called dermatitis, to what would otherwise be a harmless substance.

Here's how the poison ivy response occurs. Urushiol makes its way down through the skin, where it is metabolized, or broken down. Immune cells called T lymphocytes (or T-cells) recognize the urushiol derivatives as a foreign substance, or antigen. They send out inflammatory signals called cytokines, which bring in white blood cells. Under orders from the cytokines, these white blood cells turn into macrophages. The macrophages eat foreign substances, but in doing so they also damage normal tissue, resulting in the skin inflammation that occurs with poison ivy.

The allergic reaction to poison ivy is known as delayed hypersensitivity. Unlike immediate hypersensitivity, which causes an allergic reaction within minutes of exposure to an antigen, delayed hypersensitivity reactions don't emerge for several hours or even days after the exposure.

Most people don't have a reaction the first time they touch poison ivy, but develop an allergic reaction after repeated exposure. Everyone has a different sensitivity, and therefore a slightly different reaction, to poison ivy. Sensitivity usually decreases with age and with repeat exposures to the plant.

Sweet Jebuz!

I can finally get my failing proprietary format media from a Sony vending maching. They were so rad. Unfortunately my folks didn't see things the way I did and never bought me one. They already spent enough money on the Atari 2600. That was ok though. I got over it. Couldn't have everything I wanted.

The new Nintendo DS Lite came out today here in the US if you weren't aware. I picked mine up this afternoon at the local Best Buy. I must have seen three or four other guys walking around the store with one. So they were selling them fairly quickly. Its a sweet upgrade from the older version. Its sleeker, more compact, crisper screen with a few levels of brightness.

The only bad thing about it is the material they used on the outside of it. They decided to move away from there standard matte plastic and use this shiny clearcoat instead. Unfortunately due to this clearcoat, I can now see fingerprints after handling it.

I don't know about you but I'm actually very anal when it comes to keeping the things I buy in very good condition. I can't stand to see them get dirty or worn in any fashion. Drives me nuts. Now I know I'm going to be wiping this little thing down all the time. Companies just love doing this to people like me it seems. My PSP drives me insane. My Ipod. And now this will too.

I told myself I wouldn't post anything political...

...and honestly this little post really isn't going to touch on my personal feelings about this subject. But I just had to point one thing out because I thought it was so odd. It was the first thing that popped in my mind when I saw this image. Surely you've heard that the U.S. military killed Abu Musab al-Zarqawi? It's been all over the news these past couple of days. Anyways, look at that image from a press conference by the military. Someone actually took the time to blow up an image of his dead body AND FRAME IT.

I mean, I'm sure the guy was not an angel, and the world is more than likely better off without him running around shooting guns...but THEY FRAMED IT!

"Please, sir, may I have some more?"

So I bought both EQ2 expansions over the past couple of weeks. I can't really fully enjoy them yet because I'm not a high enough level, but thats ok with me. I was just a bit concerned that I wasn't going to be able to get ahold of a hard copy of the Desert of Flames expansion that came out last year when the time came for me to want it. Actually it was the last copy that the EBGames I went to had so it was a good thing I did buy it. And it was only $19 bucks. The Kingdom of Sky expansion was only $29.

Two other reasons why I went ahead and actually bought copies of EQ2's expansions was because: 1) Desert of Flames retail was actually cheaper than the digital download, and 2) I got cool ingame items for buying the retail versions that wasn't offered in the digital downloads. Not to mention collector coins and maps!

Sure, I could just purchase them online from SOE directly whenever I want, but I just feel more...secure...in knowing that I have an actual copy in my hands. Don't get me wrong. I do love the idea of digital distribution. I have no problem using Itunes exclusively to purchase my music nowadays. I'll take the plunge some day on my games. Just not right now.

The copy of Half Life 2: Episode 1 that I bought today at Target today was cheaper than digitally purchasing it off Steam directly too. So thats twice I saved money not digitally purchasing a game.

I swear I don't mean to talk about Superman this much...

But I couldn't help this. Yeah I'll let that one sink in a moment for those of you, whom like me, saw it at the drive-in/theater. I thought about this yesterday while humming that Tina Turner song, "We don't need another hero". It just popped in my head out of nowhere honestly. The song that is.

Anyways as I was humming the song I got to wondering why they haven't made a fourth film in the Mad Max trilogy. After a bit of Google-fu, I had come to discover that a fourth film had in fact been slated to be made. Unfortunately outside influences stopped production. Oh well.

I also realized that I didn't even have this movie in my DVD collection. So after work I went by Best Buy and picked one up. Shame though it was a VERY bareboned edition. And the case is that crappy ass plastic pop open on the side cardboard case. God I hate that. Seemed the only one of the three that got special treatment, so far, is the first one. I'm not that huge of a fan of the first Max film. I didn't see that one until after The Road Warrior (one of the first DVD's I ever bought now that I mention it). I love my Xbox LIVE. I hated the fact that I couldn't do anything while downloading anything off of LIVE on my Xbox 360.
I was wondering when they were finally going to implement this feature...

"Each item that you download is downloaded separately in the background. This lets you continue to use the console while you download an item.
You can stream music, play DVDs or CDs, play arcade titles, and play games while you download an item from the marketplace.

If you start to play an online game, the download is automatically paused while you play the game to help prevent game lag because of network congestion. LOST just came on...

*added after LOST*

Damn that was a great season finale! I have to say Desmond is now the most interesting character on that show. I hope he shows up next season.

Back to my point of this post. The new changes to LIVE. Yeah its always been pretty shitty that I couldn't do anything while I was downloading something. Downright loathed it. So this is fantastic news to read. Now I can download those demos or trailers and play UNO at the same time!

Oh and speaking of my XBOX 360. I finally got around to checking out the backwards compatability of the console. I had a craving to replay FABLE after I watched the teaser trailer for FABLE 2 and popped it in my 360. Boy was I disappointed. Sure it loaded up and started...but it played terribly. I mean bad to the point of me questioning why they would even bother. So I popped in Knights of the Old Republic 2. Same thing. Loaded up fine but terrible framerate. Now I didn't try out HALO 2 but I'm damn sure that game plays as smooth as butter. No way Microsoft would let their flagship title get crapped on like these other great games. I'll let you in on a secret: I own HALO 2 but I've never played it. I don't know why...I just got so wrapped up in the hype for it that I had to have it I guess. But once I got home with it I just sat it down and never played it. I got a couple of other games that I did the same thing with as well so it hasn't been a isolated incident for me or anything. I hate when I do it too.

Hey, this is a cool Charlie figure. I'm gonna have to go out and buy this one.

KNEEL BEFORE ZOD!

There's a new trailer on the web for Ghost Rider. I recommend viewing the international version. It's edited much better than the domestic and actually alleviates some of the fear that it's going to royally suck.

It's great seeing so many Marvel Comic books finally being made into movies. I really envy young little comic book geeks of today. Its one thing to see a film like Ghost Rider at my age, but its something completely different when your seeing it from a child's perspective. I wouldn't be so jaded and thinking about things like...character development...plot...special effects. I would just be going in that theater, having a blast and squealing like a little girl seeing things like Wolverine pop out his adamantium claws and rip through the bad guys. Well...actually I did do that anyways but you get the idea right? Here let me describe it this way: You know that smile that spreads across your face the moment you start hearing the John Williams composed Superman theme song? Yeah, its like that.

Actually, and I know I'm really in the minority when I say this, I truly did enjoy The Hulk on a variety of levels. I thought Ang Lee did a fantastic job taking that story and raising it to a more...mature level. Yet at the same time remaining true to its comic book roots even going so far as to split the screen into comic book panels. I know I've spoken about this many times to those I know.

But I digress. Anyways, Ghost Rider rocks and I have a man-crush on Nicholas Cage. That is all.

I'm still enjoying Everquest 2

Yeah, I'm still having fun solo'in in Everquest. A couple of SOE employees were running a little quest south of the commonlands and I just happen to have discovered this as I was flying a griffin over to Freeport. Grolf and Grolk were their names and they gave me the quest of defeating a certain number of Bloodskull priests. I was getting ready to log out for the day anyways after gaining two levels (19 to 21). Not bad if I say so myself. Well, I'd be lying if I didn't mention that SOE had also activated a bonus xp gain for the weekend to celebrate their new expansion showings. At least thats what I read before I logged in this morning.

Well as a reward they gave me a pet! It carried a very hefty price tag of $699 and touted the line of cutting edge technology. I held a 3DO system in my hands only once in my life and that was when I tagged along with a friend of mine one day to some strangers house. I don't remember who this guy was, but I remember he was a single guy about my age today with alot of time on his hands...err...like me today too. I was highly impressed with what I saw and wanted it. Yet I was aware of the price tag behind it and knew never in my teenage nerdy life would I own one. Like hell I was going to be able to afford it on my pizza tossing salary.

I was so confused by the strategy of this company. Never would I understand why they would try to enter the gaming market yet sell a product that was SO out of financial reach of the young, diehard console gamer like myself. I was part of the Atari 2600 generation for christs sake! I was used to being catered to my whole gaming career! Who the hell did this Hawkins guy think he was!

My confusion turned into hatred and I quickly wrote off the 3DO and returned to my Nintendo and Sega systems never to look back again. I heard that 3DO eventually caved in a couple of years after its release and discontinued its console after the killing blow that was the Sony Playstation and its $299 price tag.

So I just read a rumor that Nintendos new systems only going to be around $249.

Who Killed the Electric Car?

This looks like an interesting film. I can finally delete that...umm...copy I've had for the past couple of weeks that I've been watching over and over on the Xbox MC.

I love this movie. I knew I would the moment I heard about it. Don't take that as a "you must rush out and buy this immediately" statement though. I love all sorts of terrible films. Hell, I love Tango and Cash. Classic top notch work from Stallone and Russell. Never in my life have I ever been bombarded with so many one-liners. I'm praying for a Tango and Cash 2, but I don't see that ever happening. Well...there is a new Rocky coming out... so you never know.

I've noticed a disturbing trend lately in the cost of 2-disc DVD sets; they've been rising and becoming outrageously expensive. I saw the 2-disc "special" edition of Munich going for $28 dollars tonight while I was grabbing my copy of Grandma's Boy. That's fucking insane. I used to crave the special upa dupa editions over the regular boring DVDs back in the day because I was afraid I'd miss something really cool or interesting. Luckily now I don't give a shit. It just isn't worth nearly twice the cost just to see the wacky antics from some overpaid actor or actress. And those deleted scenes? Yeah...I can see why they were deleted in the first place now. Thanks. THAT was wealth worth the price.

I'm a star, I'm a star. You won an Oscar for Capote (I haven't seen it yet though I promise I will eventually) and now your the starring villian in Mission: Impossible: 3. I saw the film last night and I have to say outstanding performance. You definately stole the film. Yes, its true, that wasn't TOO difficult of a task to accomplish. Yet I have to give you a standing ovation for it though considering you probably had a total of ten minutes screen time.

And although many moviegoers are probably only just now realizing the genious that is Phillip Seymour Hoffman, there are those of us who had already knew of this fact for quite awhile. No, I'm not referring to your role as the rich, spineless prep school kid George Willis, Jr. in Scent of a Women...no...not your work as Brandt in The Big Lebowski. I'm talking about that small, yet unforgetable role as...Scotty J. It was as if you were born to play the role of the overweight, flambouantly homosexual who falls hopelessly in love with the leading man. Don't ever forget your roots! I just didn't feel like leaving the bar and moving the party to the house. I guess what I mean to say is that I stayed with Ultima Online while a good majority of the online gamers had left it a long time ago to play Everquest.

Everquest kinda interested me...but...the graphics of the game really turned me away. I have to admit I'm a graphics whore. A visual person. I just don't get those people who say they can enjoy playing with blocks long as if it has engaging storylines and gameplay. Don't get me wrong. I love great storylines and gameplay just as much as the next geek, but I gotta see it as well. Which is kinda odd because when I was a child I used to play Star Wars with a headless Luke Skywalker and a Jawa leg. Yeah. Just its leg. From what my brother told, frequently a toy of ours would be mauled by the wrath of my father's lawn mower and a Jawa just happened to have been one of his victims. And well..since we only had one Jawa.

When Everquest 2 was announced I knew I would end up giving it a shot. They had me at "Next Gen". That was back in...late 2004 according to my Station Account. The game intially impressed me. I solo'd the majority of the time like I usually do in MMO's. I did actually talk to one other guy I knew from previous MMO's and joined the guild he was part of.

I had fun for a few months. I probably continued playing until February or so of 2005 before I decided to quit. I just didn't have the dedication to play it. I felt the "grind" terribly early in the game and it only discouraged me from continuing to pay for it. I quit the day a fellow guildmate offered his crafting services to me at a discount (without me even asking for his services in the first place). A discount?! I understand trying to make some money as a crafter, but even I am gracious enough to just give time and items away to guildmates if they need it. Thats what a guild was for. To help each other advance. I felt dirty after that experience. Like I was molested by that drunk uncle or something. I just logged out right then and there and cancelled my subscription.

Well thanks to World of Warcraft, SOE had to scramble back to the drawing board when they realized no one was really having fun in there game. And I definately see the changes they've made. The reigns on the XP has definately been loosened, and the questing system reminds of Warcrafts. Those are the main things I noticed in my first day of playing. Another thing I had noticed was an option to change the character models. I had not clue what the hell they meant by this because I like to just jump into games without reading the updates or instruction booklet. Well after five seconds of a little google-fu I discovered these new character models were in fact SOE's attempt at localizing EQ2 to appeal to the asian market. SOGO models as they called it. Interesting. So I applied these alternate models to the game. I love them. Its like I'm playing Lineage 2 without actually having played it. At least thats what I pretend now for some odd reason.

So I don't play Everquest 2. I play Lineage 2!

I wish I could use Futura.

Futura should be used for everything.
