My girlfriend entered her and I into the Design-A-Wish 5K the past weekend.

This was the first organized run I ever participated in. I enjoyed the heck out of it, but boy did I feel like such an out of shape fatass compared to all those gung-ho runners who were present there as well.

The distance was approximately 3.1 miles and I completed it in 40 minutes. The best time was about 19 minutes by some teenage kid.

I was second to last in my age group of men. I wasn't expecting to do the best considering I started running again just a month earlier, being slightly overweight for my size, a former decade regular smoker turned casual smoker. I also walked the first mile with my girlfriend because she wasn't planning on jogging at all. She hates it. So I told her I wouldn't leave here behind for at least the first mile.

I am preparing myself for the next run though. I'm going to do better. I already added approximately 2 miles to my regular route bringing it up to almost five miles. I ordered a camera for my PSP and when I get it in the mail I'll test it out by snapping photos of my route. Its kinda interesting. I pass by my cities zoo, through one of our cities park and past a couple of really nice homes.

Hmm..I wasn't planning on running before work today but after typing this I kinda do now.

Good for you man. It might help to keep in mind there are a whole group of "professional" runners out there that enter these "casual" runs.

I read an article the other day about getting in shape that suggested entering a marathon out of town. Sounded like a good idea. I would love to run the 'lue marathon some day.
